Why did I choose recruitment?
Prior to joining Aspire recruitment I worked for 15 years in the Creative and Digital industry. While pondering what to do next I met Tom of Aspire who suggested the idea of recruitment. ‘Why join the dark side?’, was the bitter response of my creative colleagues. Recruiters don’t have a great reputation in Hong Kong so I understood why my friends thought I had gone bonkers. Then again, all my fellow creative friends are an itsy bitsy ‘unusual’ and that is exactly the reason why we are in the creative industry. Being unconventional is expected so changing to recruitment may sound crazy to some but it’s not as extreme as most people think. I was looking for a new challenge without leaving the creative industry completely. I was impressed by Aspire’s plans and way of doing things…et voila!
Do I regret it?
Yes. Maybe I should have started earlier. It's a breath of fresh air to do something completely different while using my knowledge of the creative industry in Asia. In addition Aspire’s motivational working culture and fun colleagues enthuses me. The financial reward is very good too. The more effort I put in my job the more I get compensated. Sounds logical but this isn’t common practice in the creative industry.
During my career I have worked with headhunters and recruiters and the best were from London. The level of professionalism, commitment and enthusiasm is something I had never encountered in Asia. Until I got in touch with Aspire Hong Kong. Aspire offers continuous training to fine tune our expertise. This not only benefits our clients and candidates, it is also fantastic to be in a professional environment where new ideas are encouraged.
Also what I learnt previously in the industry has been very useful. Besides working with creative people all day, a large part of my job is negotiating with multiple stakeholders, managing expectations and coaching people so that everyone involved gets the best possible deal. Spotting new talent, advising people about the industry, contract mediation, offering guidance on CV and portfolios, brand building, arranging workshops for design students and finding someone their dream job or exceptionally talented staff for clients are all part of a day’s work.
I am maybe a little biased, but you can take it from me that Aspire’s professional but fun environment makes them different from other recruitment companies in Hong Kong. Who wouldn’t want to work with passionate people who love what they do?
